(consulting firm specializing in airport planning), to conduct the Master Plan.

The Master Plan is intended to evaluate the Airport’s capabilities and role, to forecast future aviation demand, and to plan for the timely development of new or improved facilities that may be required to meet that demand.  This is done to ensure that Santa Fe Municipal Airport can coordinate project approvals, design, financing, and construction to avoid experiencing detrimental effects due to inadequate facilities.

Through updating the development plan for Santa Fe Municipal Airport, the Master Plan details a capital improvement program (CIP) that identifies projects that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and New Mexico Department of Transportation – Aviation Division (NMDOT) use as a guide for future implementation needs.  The Master Plan is also key to securing FAA grant funding at 93.75 percent for eligible projects as well as obtaining NMDOT funding assistance.

The Santa Fe Municipal Airport Master Plan will be prepared in accordance with FAA and NMDOT guidelines and industry-accepted practices, including Advisory Circular 150/5070-6B, Airport Master Plans and Advisory Circular 150/5300-13A, Airport Design.  The study process is anticipated to take approximately 18 months to complete which includes time for agency reviews and FAA approvals of both the Master Plan forecasts and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) drawings.

The Santa Fe Municipal Airport is of interest to many within the regional community including residents, businesses, community organizations, governmental officials, airport users/tenants, and aviation organizations.  The Airport also serves as a vital economic asset for the City of Santa Fe and the surrounding region.  As such, it should be carefully and thoughtfully planned and subsequently developed in a manner which matches the development goals of the area.

With a sound and realistic Master Plan, Santa Fe Municipal Airport can maintain its important link to the national air transportation system for the community and maintain the existing public and private investments in its facilities.  This Master Plan will provide a vision for the Airport covering the next 20 years and, in some cases, beyond.  With this vision, the City of Santa Fe will have advance notice of potential future airport funding needs so that appropriate steps can be taken to ensure that adequate funds are budgeted and planned.
